Goverment Of The Philippines
...on conflicts faced by Antony between Octavius and also with Cleopatra. This can also be classified as a historical tragedy, for the characters are mainly from the time of the early Romans.
As soon as Antony hears that his wife, Fulvia, died; he went back to Rome for the funeral of his wife. When he got back to Rome, Octavius, one of the triumvirates, asks Antony to marry his sister, Octavia. With this marriage, this will cement the men’s alliance to Pompey. Enobarbus predicts that this marriage will not unite the two leaders but rather it will destroy their friendship. As soon as Octavius defeats Pompey, the future emperor will no longer need allies. So he charges Lepidus and denies Antony a share of the glory in defeating Pompey. There was a rivalry among the brothers-in-law, in which threatens to destroy the relationship, although not strong, between Antony and Octavia.
Shakespeare, like his other plays, does not emphasize more on the representations, but with the conflict between Octavius and Antony, as well as the queen of Egypt, Cleopatra. Cleopatra for the Romans was an object of fascination. The story does not focus on love affairs but rather, Shakespeare places Cleopatra with her attempts to seduce Antony from his responsibilities in Rome, this triggered Antony’s jealousy and threats against Cleopatra’s life.
Nowadays, the thirst for power is happening in our world today. Octavius represents those people, like our government official, who wants to be superior to others. While Cleopatra represents the temptations that distracts us from our responsibilities and duties may it be in school or in other way. Likewise, our duties are more important than to do unnecessary things. This story tells us that temptations are in many forms that we must be in focus to do our duties and responsibilities well.
